The Registered Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. He/she provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Registered Nurse develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. This role includes caring for adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Registered Nurse is accountable for educating patients and families to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment. The nurse applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care. He/she assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through direct observation or assessment.
