Job Description Are you a Second Year Surgical Technologist student looking to expand your clinical skills? /n This student Surgical Technologist Trainee program is intended to grow currently enrolled Surgical Technologist Students in their second year of school, with clinical skills and professionalism. /n Apply today to learn more! /n Purpose: Perform a variety of tasks in an Operating Room (OR), assisting the surgical team. These tasks include arranging sterile setups, passing sterile instruments, sponges, and suture to surgeons or surgeon assistants, preparing sterile supplies, assisting in cleanup of the operating room, and checking placement and operation of surgical equipment. All activities will be performed under the supervision of a Surgical Technologist (ST) or Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities: /n /n - Post-Operative: - Tear down sterile set-up; use case cart to separate and transport used and unused items to correct destinations - Prepare the OR for EVS personnel - Restock the OR. /n - Intra-Operative: - Actively participate in the Time Out - Efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants. Hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site as directed. - Handle sharps appropriately - Participate in the prevention of unplanned retained foreign items (counts) - Properly care for specimens: collect, label, maintain, handoff - Correctly handle all medications: receive, verify, label, track quantity used /n - Ensure a clean, safe environment through continual alertness to safety hazards. /n - Pre-Procedure: - Prepare the OR by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes and sterile solutions. Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment. Adjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly. - Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves. /n Requires enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technologist Program Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: - Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
