The OpportunityCategory Manager for Perishables & Specialty is
responsible for managing the procurement process as well as serving
as subject matter expert for assigned perishable categories (e.g.
fresh produce, specialty fresh proteins, dairy and other assigned
perishable and non-perishable commodities). As subject matter
expert, you will develop and manage categories to achieve
organizational goals by; developing category strategies, leveraging
scale and building strategic supplier relationships. Select
Executes category planning process for perishable categories of
responsibility, including development and implementation of
category plans; leveraging insights in order to formulate key
strategies and category initiatives supporting strategies.
Identifies and brings forward differentiated market innovations,
helping drive innovation and overall value to the company.
Shares market intelligence, best practices and provides category
expertise in improving cost, driving efficiencies and minimizing
potential supply chain risks.
Role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders,
culinarians, unit operators and suppliers.
Drives supplier relationship management and manages a supplier
network that maintains uninterrupted supply and safety of
contracted products at competitive cost.
Delivers financial benefit to Delaware North by implementing
category management discipline, while implementing cost saving and
cost avoidance initiatives for assigned product categories.
Supports new product development efforts, product launches, and
various projects initiated by the culinary/operations teams that
involve assigned categories.
Provides management of all assigned categories in the areas of
price administration and documentation, contract administration,
supply assurance and supplier evaluation.
Proactively assesses and manages commodity market risk to the

objectives, standards and ethics, while delivering best overall
value to DN operating locations.
Performs ongoing analytics including internal data mining, in-depth
category analysis and cost of goods comparisons on Delaware North
market basket purchases against internal and external industry
Maximizes contract/program compliance by ensuring suppliers meet
required service levels, product quality measures and end-user
BA/BS degree required in Business Administration/Management, Supply
Chain, or related field.
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or CPSM certification preferred,
but not required.
5 years' (minimum) experience in a procurement role with increasing
levels of responsibility, along with food industry experience.
Subject Matter Expertise in Foodservice industry and supplier
management.Experience and knowledge of foodservice proteins,
produce and food related commodity markets preferred.
Strong financial acumen with consultative, analytical and problem
solving skills. Familiarity, ability and high level of comfort
working with complex technical data.
Solid negotiation skills with experience negotiating commercial
terms and service level agreements.
Excellent PC skills, proficient in MS applications with ability to
work with, analyze and synthesize large amounts of data and build
Strong inter-personal, organizational, and analytical skills.
Ability and comfort interacting with stakeholders at all levels of
organization and delivering effective presentations.
Excellent communication skills - oral, written and presentational.
Proven ability to facilitate strategic supplier relationships and
work with senior business executives.
