Job Description:
Job Summary The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible
for ensuring all welding and fabrication activities within a power
plant construction or maintenance project meet applicable codes,
specifications, and quality standards. This role supports quality
assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts by performing
inspections, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with field
teams to maintain compliance with project requirements. Key
Responsibilities Perform visual and dimensional inspections of
welds on piping, structural steel, and pressure components Verify
compliance with applicable codes and standards, including AWS,
ASME, and project-specific requirements Review and validate Welding
Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records
(PQR), and welder qualifications Monitor welding activities in the
field to ensure proper techniques, materials, and safety practices
are followed Coordinate and witness non-destructive testing (NDT),
such as radiographic (RT), ultrasonic (UT), magnetic particle (MT),
and dye penetrant (PT) testing Identify weld defects, document
non-conformances, and track corrective actions Maintain accurate
inspection reports, logs, and turnover documentation Interface with
project engineers, subcontractors, and client representatives to
resolve quality issues Ensure adherence to site safety policies and
environmental regulations Required Qualifications Current Certified
Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding
Society High school diploma or equivalent required; technical
degree preferred 3-7 years of welding inspection experience in
industrial or power generation environments Strong knowledge of
welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) Familiarity with ASME
Section I, V, and IX, and AWS D1.1 codes Ability to read and
interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and blueprints Experience
with NDT methods and coordination Proficient in documentation and
reporting tools (digital QA/QC systems preferred) Preferred
Qualifications Experience on large EPC projects or with union craft
labor environments Prior work in fossil, combined cycle, or
renewable power plants Additional certifications (e.g., API, NACE,
or Level II/III NDT) OSHA safety training (10 or 30-hour) Work
Environment Field-based role at active power plant construction or
outage sites in Nebraska Exposure to outdoor conditions, elevated
work areas, confined spaces, and industrial hazards May require
extended work hours, weekends, and travel depending on project
